Macau

1. No Sign Board – it is the same shop available at Singapore. They opened a shop at Venetian. The food is even better than the one at Singapore tim. The signature dishes are white pepper crab, deep fried small squid, 麦片虾.

2. Must have shark’s fin soup –新陶陶酒家, 28827065, 地址:仔告利雅施利華街26號

3. Dim sum – 永利轩 inside Wynn. You need to call them and make a booking in advance… But their dim sum is very very nice… all of us enjoyed a lot last time.

4. 大堂炸雞 – my favorite fried chicken now… was very disappointed that it was closed during CNY. So much better than KFC! Yummy!

09:30, - for having small Cantonese dishes… cheap… but nice…

流浮山 - 歡樂

Haven't been to 流浮山 before. Didn't even know how to get there.
Asked an old friend for direction before going. And I also looked for the direction online too. Found that it is very easy to go there indeed.

Route 3 --> Tai Lam Tunnel --> Tin Shui Wei - West --> Lau Fau Shan --> Arrive at Seafood Village

The seafood village is more happening than Lei Yu Mun.

Being a firsttimer there, we didn't know which restaurant to go. So, we picked a restaurant which was briefly mentioned in Babykingdom.com. (Actually, the major reason is, it accepts credit card.) It is called 歡樂. It is right at the roundable outside the seafood village.

The food there was very nice (and not expensive too). We had:
蛋黄炒肉蟹
麻香烧汁濑尿虾
Port Wine 局生蚝

Japanese Style - Soft Centered Egg!!

Found this from the web http://www.chubbyhubby.net/blog/?p=485:

To prepare these, your eggs should be cold, i.e. used directly from the refrigerator.
  1. Boil some water. Gently place the eggs in the boiling water, lowering the heat just a tad so that the water is bubbling but not so strong that the eggs are kicking around inside your pot. If you’re using quail eggs, boil for 3 minutes. If you’re using chicken eggs, boil them for 6-8 minutes depending on the size of the eggs. I used medium-sized eggs and boiled them for 7 minutes, which yielded a soft, squishy yolk. If you want a really runny yolk, go for 6.
  2. a malted vinegar ice bath (simply malted vinegar + lots of ice).
  3. Transfer the eggs directly from the boiling water into the ice bath. Make sure they’re completely covered.
  4. Leave them in the ice bath for between 3-4 hours.
  5. Take them out and carefully peel the shells off the eggs.
  6. Then place the eggs into whatever liquid you want to steep them in.
  7. If you want to make a typical soy sauce egg marinade for example, you can combine 1 cup light soy sauce, 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 10 ginger slices (bring to a boil and then cool).
  8. Leave the eggs in the liquid for at least 3-5 hours. You can store the eggs and the liquid in the fridge. But when eating, bring the eggs back to room temperature.

Gaddi's - The Peninsula

Today, I have a very very nice lunch at Gaddi's.

I believe most of you know about this French restaurant located on the 1/F of The Peninsula at TST. Frankly, I don't know anything about this restaurant until the moment I got the invitation. (Sorry for being "Goo Lau Gwa Men").

I didn't know much about French cuisine, except for foie gras. Luckily, I didn't need to make any decision on what to order out of the menu. The head chef is a friend of the boss I had lunch with. So, the chef made the decision for us and cooked whatever it is good and fresh today. That's the most authentic Chef's Menu I have ever had.

1. Mini croissant with onion and bacon, beer bread -- soft inside, crispy outside
2. foie gras with black truffle -- very rich in taste, served with a slice of crunchy bread
3. Deep fried frog leg with egg custard -- cannot imagine frog leg can be such a good match with egg custard.
4. Beef cheek with beef dumpling -- have never eaten any beef cheek. usually, ppl will only talk about eating fish cheek. Highly recommended. Beef cheek got a very tender, smooth texture.
5. Salmon fillet -- according to the chef, the fillet was only slightly marinated, and smoked over oak wood for a little while to gain the flavour of it and the soaked in olive oil. Very nice.
6. Main course - Pork belly, with black sausage (with pig blood, liver, etc inside) -- the taste is rich and strong but not awkward at all. Tender, tasty, not fat at all.
7. Orange Peel Custard Souffle with orange sherbet inside -- Hot hot souffle with a lump of cold cold sherbet inside.. the best souffle I have ever had.... should be the best in town...

In conclusion, I had an excellent eating experience from today's lunch. The best I have ever had on western cuisine.

Lei Yu Mun 鯉魚門

Quite a number of friends asked me about which restaurant to go in Lei Yu Mun.
And I just realized that there are friends who really look at this blog (though nothing much in it) to look for restaurants. :D

My family used to go to 鯉魚門 for some special occasions.
I will recommend having seafood there, especially if you hv friends visiting HK and you want to show them around.

Usually, my family buys seafood from a seafood store called 明記海鮮, which is located right after the basketball ground. The baskball ground is easy to find, just walk allow the alley for about 5 minutes and u will definitely see it. You can tell the store owner that you are introduced by 林小姐. But I can't guarantee you will hv a better deal, maybe even worse. Haha.
Then go to the seafood restaurant opposite (the other side of the basketball ground) called 海德花園.

In terms of $$, you can either tell the seafood stall that the budget you have per head, including everything. Then the stall owner will adjust for u and negotiate for u with the restaurant.
Or, you can select whatever seafood you like and bring it to the restaurant to cook. It will be a bit more expensive, but sure you can have everything you want.

北角漁村

This restaurant is located at the Food Centre in the Java Road Market (北角渣華道熟食中心)

Very surprised that they got some authentic singaporean dishes.

My first recommendation is Black Pepper Crab. The taste is very similar to the most popular shop selling black pepper crab in Singapore (Still Road). It tastes good good!

The 麥片蝦 is nice as well.

Tried the Bahkutet (Meat Bone Tea), it is very concentrated and good for eating with rice.
However, really too concentrated that it cannot be taken as soup.

My friend E and her hubby likes Stingray. However, the stingray available in the restaurant is not fresh. So, I don't recommend this dish.
